John Townsend
Vice President & CFO

John Townsend is vice president and chief financial officer for Verizon Wireless, responsible for the company's controller, financial analysis and planning, auditing, tax, treasury, revenue assurance and business strategy organizations. Verizon Wireless is one of the largest US wireless providers, with $49.3 billion in revenue in 2008.

Previously, Townsend was finance director for Vodafone UK Limited, the largest mobile operator in the UK, since December 2003 where he led the finance organization’s team of 350 people.

Townsend joined Vodafone Group in 1993 and has held a number of senior positions within the Group. He served as finance director of Vodafone Australia, responsible for the company’s Australian and Pacific Region businesses, from January 2001 to December 2003. Prior to that, he had been chief financial officer of Vodafone's Swedish operations since 1999.

Prior to joining Vodafone, Townsend was with KPMG Peat Marwick in Birmingham, UK, and Hong Kong.

Townsend holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and business finance from the University of Manchester, UK, and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, for which he qualified in 1986.
