David Small
President - Northeast Area
David J. Small is president - Northeast Area for Verizon Wireless, responsible for the company's operations in the New England, New York Metro, Philadelphia Tri-State, Upstate New York, and Washington/Baltimore/Virginia Regions.
Prior to joining the wireless team in September 2007, Small held several leadership positions with Verizon Partner Solutions, the company’s wholesale business. Most recently he was president, responsible for strategic planning, sales and marketing, and operations of local and long-distance services. He also oversaw operations supporting Verizon Business customers in government, healthcare, education and large business markets.
He also served as Verizon Partner Solutions’ senior vice president of Marketing and Sales for domestic wholesale customers. Prior to that role, he was vice president of Access Services and managed ordering, design and provisioning of wholesale access services in 19 states and the District of Columbia.
Small began his telecommunications career as a network design engineer for Contel, responsible for planning, engineering and capital budgeting for telephone exchanges in Indiana. He was promoted to positions of increasing responsibility, including senior switching engineer, sales technical support, and manager of regional and national sales.
Prior to the Bell Atlantic/GTE merger, Small was general manager of business response, and led the design and provisioning of switched/special services, switch translations across eight states, and tier-two support of switch translations across the GTE footprint.
Small has been active in community organizations, including Junior Achievement and Science Central. He is currently the Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of KidsPeace, a national nonprofit group dedicated to helping children in crisis. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University and an M.B.A. from Ball State University.
